When you watch a luxury brand film — the kind that makes you feel something before you even register what you are seeing — it looks effortless. The light is perfect. The pacing is flawless. Every frame feels intentional. But behind that apparent effortlessness is a rigorous production process that most people never see.
At Eden Film Co, we have produced luxury brand content for clients like Breitling and Ritz Carlton. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at what actually goes into creating a luxury brand film, from first conversation to final delivery.
Phase 1: Discovery (Week 1)
Every project begins with listening. Before we write a single word of script or scout a single location, we need to understand the brand at a fundamental level. What is the brand’s heritage? Who is the audience? What emotion should the film evoke? What is the competitive landscape?
This discovery phase typically involves one or two in-depth calls with the client’s marketing team, a review of existing brand guidelines and materials, competitive analysis, and audience research. For luxury brands, we also study the brand’s visual language — the photography style, color palette, typography, and tone that define how the brand presents itself to the world.
The output of discovery is an internal creative brief that guides every subsequent decision.
Phase 2: Pre-Production (Weeks 2-3)
Pre-production is where the film is actually made — shoot day is just where we capture it. This phase includes:
Creative Treatment: A detailed document outlining the visual approach, narrative structure, tone, and key sequences. For luxury brands, the treatment often includes mood boards and visual references that establish the aesthetic direction.
Script Development: Whether the film uses narration, interview-based storytelling, or purely visual narrative, the script provides the structural backbone. Every word matters in luxury content — the language must match the brand’s level of sophistication.
Location Scouting: For a Ritz Carlton, the location is the property itself, but the scouting process involves identifying the specific rooms, angles, times of day, and vantage points that will photograph most cinematically. We scout with our Director of Photography, Justin Roelant, to evaluate natural light, spatial challenges, and camera positioning.
Production Design: In luxury content, every element in the frame matters. We coordinate with the client on wardrobe, props, set dressing, and any modifications needed to ensure the environment looks its absolute best on camera.
Crew and Equipment: We finalize the crew, camera packages, lighting plan, and grip equipment. For luxury brand films, we typically shoot on cinema-grade cameras with premium anamorphic or spherical lenses that produce the rich, cinematic look that distinguishes our work.
Phase 3: Production (1-3 Days)
Shoot days are where the planning pays off. A typical luxury brand film shoot is 1-3 days depending on the project scope. Here is what a day looks like:
5:30 AM — Crew call. The team arrives early, especially for properties where we need to capture golden hour light. Our grip and electric team begins setting up lighting.
6:30 AM — Golden hour. The first hour of daylight is often the most cinematic. We capture exterior establishing shots, architectural details, and lifestyle moments that benefit from the warm, directional light.
8:00 AM — Interior sequences. With natural light pouring through windows, we capture interior spaces at their most beautiful. Isaac directs the talent and camera movement while Justin controls the visual language through lens selection, lighting, and composition.
12:00 PM — Detail work. Luxury is in the details. We spend dedicated time capturing the textures, materials, and moments that communicate premium quality — the stitching on a leather chair, the condensation on a cocktail glass, the fold of Egyptian cotton sheets.
5:00 PM — Golden hour (evening). The final hour of light offers another opportunity for cinematic exterior work, pool scenes, dining experiences, and atmospheric captures.
Phase 4: Post-Production (Weeks 4-6)
Post-production is where the film comes to life. Our editor, Collin McCuiston, begins with a rough assembly, then crafts the narrative through multiple editing passes. The process includes:
Editing: Typically 3-5 rounds of editing, from rough assembly to fine cut. Every cut, transition, and pacing decision is intentional.
Color Grading: The color grade is critical for luxury content. We develop a custom color palette for each project that enhances the brand’s visual identity and creates a cohesive, cinematic look.
Sound Design: Music selection, ambient sound, Foley, and audio mixing. For luxury brands, the audio experience is as important as the visual — the right music can elevate a good film to an extraordinary one.
Motion Graphics: Subtle title cards, logo animations, and any graphical elements are designed and animated to match the film’s aesthetic.
The Final Delivery
The completed film is delivered in multiple formats optimized for every platform — website, social media, presentation, broadcast, and any other specifications the client requires. We also provide a package of shorter cuts and social edits derived from the main film.
From first meeting to final delivery, a luxury brand film typically takes 5-7 weeks and represents an investment of $25,000 to $75,000. The result is content that serves the brand for years and communicates quality, prestige, and sophistication in a way that no other medium can match.
